ILM Nears Completion of Star Wars Episode III VFX Work

The Hyperspace section of the official Star Wars site has posted an update on ILM's final push for the VFX work in Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith. VFX Supervisors John Knoll and Roger Guyett comment on the short meetings in March, and for Animation Director Rob Coleman, there are no more approval meetings.

Supervisors for Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Confirmed

Cinefex is confirming the supervisors for Gore Verbinski's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, sequel to the surprise hit of 2003. John Knoll and Bill George are the VFX Supervisors, while Hal Hickel returns to supervise the animation.

ILM Wins VES Award for Best VFX of 2004 for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The 3rd Annual VES Awards were announced February 16, 2005 and ILM won the top award for Best VFX in a VFX driven film for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Imageworks was the big winner last night with 2 awards for Spider-Man 2 (plus one for Best Performance by Alfred Molina) and 3 for The Aviator. The crew from Framestore/CFC also got the second award for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for their character animation work on the hippogriff while The Day After Tomorrow got Best Single VFX Shot of the year.

This morning Academy President Frank Pierson and Adrien Brody presented the nominations for the 77th Academy Awards. The 3 films selected for Best Visual Effects are Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Roger Guyett, Tim Burke, John Richardson and Bill George nominees, Spider-Man 2, John Dykstra, Scott Stokdyk, Anthony LaMolinara and John Frazier nominees, and I, Robot, John Nelson, Eric Nash, Andy Jones and Joe Letteri nominees.

We recently got confirmation of several projects with the recent flurry of activity at ILM: Ed Hirsh is confirmed as Supervisor for Son of the Mask while Tom Bertino supervises the animation, Scott Farrar is supervising xXx: State of the Union, Eric Brevig is supervising The Island, Pablo Helman joins Dennis Muren in supervising War of the Worlds while veteran Randy Dutra supervises the animation, and last but not least Tim Alexander will supervise ILM's work on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
