ILM Gets Terminator 3 FX Work

Variety is reporting that ILM has been awarded the contract for the FX of Terminator 3, a 2003 release. The FX will be supervised by Pablo Helman, currently one of the Episode 2 supervisor and Dan Taylor will be the Animation Supervisor, having recently worked on Jurassic Park 3.

ILM Has Strong Presence in Films Slated for Oscar FX Bakeoff

On the heels of the Scientific and Technical Oscars announcement, the FX branch of the Academy has announced the 8 movies that will participate in the bakeoff this past Wednesday January 9, 2002. The final 3 nominees competing for Best Visual Effects of 2001 will be selected from this group of 8. There were 8 this year, instead of the usual 7, because of a tie. As has become customary, ILM has a strong presence, having 4 projects they worked on being part of this list.

ILM Wins 2 Technical Oscars for 2001

The Oscar season is starting to go into full gear, and the Academy announced on Monday January 7, 2002, the winners for Scientific and Technical Achievements. This year we have 21 winners and ILM got two Technical Achievement Awards, that receive Certificates. The awards will be given on Saturday evening, March 2, 2002, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

ILM Nominated for AI and Harry Potter for the AFI 2001 Awards

The American Film Institute has created a new yearly award show (in similar vein to the Golden Globes and the Oscars) to "honor excellence in American film and television". It consists of only 19 categories overall, but there is one representing VFX: AFI Digital Effects Artist of the Year. ILM is nominated twice, for Harry Potter and AI. The other nominees are the first Lord of the Rings movie and Waking Life.

ILM Continues Helping with Auction for America

The official Star Wars site has been updated with news that Lucasfilm has created special items for auction at Ebay for the Auction for America initiative. As you might recall, previously member from ILM, coordinated by CG supervisor Joel Aron, collected and auctioned off successfully several ILM crew member items. Now Lucasfilm commissioned the ILM modelmakers to build and customize replicas from licensed models. Auction starts today, it will benefit the September 11th Children's Fund and will run for 10 days.

Pixar's Website Shows Andre and Wally B. Short

The Pixar website has just been redisigned, proudly displaying the characters from Monsters Inc. on the main webpage. But probably one of the best new features is the inclussion of all of Pixar's short films. Among them is The Adventures of Andre and Wally B., one of the landmark film in the early days of computer animation (1984, if you consider that old) and one of the last projects done by the Lucasfilm Computer Graphics Group before it became Pixar.
