Philip Alexy Showcases Work and Moves to EA

Philip Edward Alexy, a Digital and Character Animator who worked at ILM during the second half of the 90s, has joined Electronic Arts in Canada (where Habib Zargarpour is). He has recently revamped his website, Harrold The Flying Sheep, where he has a gallery of his personal work plus many samples and small breakdowns of shots he has worked on including from such projects such as Casper, Flubber, Jumanji, Deep Impact, Star Wars Episode 1, and Stargate SG1.

Lucas Digital Featured in US Stamps

The United States Postal Service will issue a set of stamps celebrating the behinds the scenes work in the film industry. ILM and Skywalker Sound were selected to represent the VFX and Sound disciplines respectively. Mark Siegel, ILM model maker and sculptor, his hands on an ET maquette will be shown on the stamp.

Official VES and BAFTA Lists

The Visual Effects Society website has posted the list of winners of the first VES Awards. As was posted a few days ago, Paul Huston, Yusei Uesugi and Jonathan Harb of ILM won for Best Matte Paintings for their work in Star Wars Episode 2. In related awards news, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers won the BAFTA for Achievement in Visual Effects last night, for Jim Rygiel, (former ILM VFX Supervisor) Joe Letteri, Randall William Cook, and Alex Funke.

The ChubbChubbs Win at Imagina 2003

The ChubbChubbs, Imageworks first animated short directed by former ILM animator Eric Armstrong, has won Prize for Best Direction at Imagina 2003, one of the premiere CG conferences in Europe. Additionally, Stuart Little 2, on which Eric Armstrong served as Animation Supervisor, also won Prize for Best Feature Film. The Robota trailer, based on Doug Chiang's book of the same name and done by Sparx in France, won Prize for Best Rendering.
