The Wormhole depicted in Interstellar is the result of a close collaboration between the film's Scientific Advisor, Professor Kip Thorne and the visual effects team at Double Negative. Together they developed the Double Negative Gravitational Renderer. This code uses Einstein's laws of General Relativity to trace beams of light as they propagate through the curved space-time in the vicinity of a wormhole and a black hole to create the iconic images seen in the movie. This talk describes this collaboration and how the challenge of depicting the wormhole influenced the development of this renderer.
The talk will be given by Oliver James, Chief Scientist at Double Negative.
