Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at VES/eDIT 2006

Variety is reporting that Lucasfilm is planning to sell ILM's Model Shop to Mark Anderson, who was a modelmaker there and also served as Director of Physical Production. While the deal is not yet finalized, it would be named Kerner Optical and become a preferred subcontractor for ILM.

Bill Kovacs Passes Away

Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, VFXWorld and other are sadly reporting that CG pioneer Bill Kovacs has passed away at the age of 56. Bill Kovacs was a programmer at Abel's for the production of Tron, one of the cofounders of Wavefront in 1984 and in 1997 received a SciTech Award for the development of Advanced Visualizer.
