ComingSoon has announced that a new trailer for J.J. Abrams' Mission:
Impossible III will premiere during Super Bowl XL, this Sunday February 6,
2006. Also a trailer for Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon will be shown.

This morning Academy President Sid Ganis and actress Mira Sorvino
announced the nominations for the 78th Academy Awards. The three nominated
movies for Achievement in Visual Effects are: The Chronicles of Narnia: The
Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, King Kong and War of the Worlds.

VFXWorld has a report on the VES Show and Tell Event, which took place
January 21, 2006, where representatives from the major nominations
discussed their projects. VFX Supervisors Dennis Muren, John Knoll, Roger
Guyett, Jim Mitchell, Tim Alexander and Pablo Helman were among those
present.
ILM received 10 nominations for the VES 2005 Awards for their work on
Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith (4 nominations), War of the
Worlds (3 nominations), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2 nominations)
and Jarhead (1 nomination). Other heavy hitters include King Kong and The
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Two ILM projects have been nominated for the BAFTA (Orange British
Academy Film Awards) Best Achievement in Visual Effects: Harry Potter and
the Goblet of Fire and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and
the Wardrobe. Also nominated were Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory and King Kong.
Business Week recently interviewed CTO Cliff Plumer and VFX Supervisor
Tim Alexander. They discuss how shows are organized and executed,
recruiting and staffing issues.
VFXWorld announced that ILM has opened a new office in Los Angeles, with
Joni Jacobson as Executive in charge of Production Marketing. She has
previously worked at CIS Hollywood, Digital Domain, Dream Quest Images and
Gray Matter FX. The office will also serve clients of Skywalker Sound in
the area.
ILM recently completed work on the ESPN movie Code Breakers, directed by
Rod Holcomb, based on the cheating scandal a West Point in 1951. C.O.R.E.
Digital Pictures also contributed to the VFX work as well.
Yahoo! Movies and the Apple site have recently posted the first trailers
for J.J. Abrams' Mission: Impossible III, supervised by Roger Guyett, and
Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon, supervised by Kim Libreri.

submitted nominees for Best Visual Effects.
The Hyperspace section of the official Star Wars site posted an article
on the VFX work in Back to the Future Part II. Jonathan Luskin, John Ellis
and Stuart Robertson discuss some of the complex optical work and early
digital work.
