Issue 2 of the Cinefex newsletter has an interview with VFX Branch Chairman Richard Edlund by Don Shay, where they discuss the VFX Bake-Off process and this year's results.
Edlund mentions that the 40 member steering committee includes all areas of FX, including physical and no more than 2 members of any one facility are on it. The initial list of candidates was about 40 films from which a shortlist of 19 were selected before voting for the 7 bake-off finalists. He also thinks Warner Bros. is partially at fault for the Matrix sequel not being nominated and mentions he was surprised for not making the cut. He also mentions there is no criteria for judging and selecting the films.
