Animation Supervisor Dave Andrews, currently working on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, will be a speaker at 3DFestival 2004 on May 5, while former ILM member and Weta Digital VFX Supervisor Joe Letteri, will talk about the work of on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King at the Australian Effects and Animation Festival 2004 on June 1st. Several other VFX projects will get exposure, some by former ILM members.
David Andrews has worked on the 3 Harry Potter films and on such projects as Mars Attacks! and Small Soldiers. His yet untitled presentation will be on May 5, 2004 at 2pm. Former ILM member who will also be there include Brian J. Pohl (worked on T3 and Star Wars Episode II among other at ILM) now at Digital Domain will discuss previz integration into a pipeline. Blair Clark (at ILM worked on the Creature Shop on such projects as The Golden Child, Willow, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Innerspace) now at Tippett Studio will discuss the work on the upcoming Hellboy. Greg Butler (worked on Forrest Gump at ILM) now at Weta Digital will be one of the speakers on the Special Conference Day dedicated to The The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Henry LaBounta (at ILM worked on projects like Casper and Twister before becoming PDI's VFX Supervisor on such projects as A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Minority Report) now at Electronic Arts will present the art of the SSX3 game. Concept designer Feng Zhu, who worked on the Art Department for Star Wars Episode III will give a workshop on concept drawings.
Other notable projects and studios include Jordi Bares of The Mill, speaking about commercials, Greg Downing of Rhythm and Hues, talking about photogrammetry, Eric Hanson (formerly of DQI and Imageworks) of Digital Domain, on the use of digital sets, Andy Lomas (formerly of Framestore) of ESC, speaking about The Matrix: Revolutions, Paul Franklin of Double Negative will present the work on LXG, Bill Seneshen of PDI/Dreamwork will show the work on Shrek 2, and Emile Smith of Zoic will showcase the work on the Battlestar Galactica remake. There will also be talks by Framestore/CFC and The Moving Picture Company and several members from Weta Digital, including Animation Supervisor Randall William Cook. More information here:
Joe Letteri, who worked on Jurassic Park and supervised projects like Daylight and Magnolia at ILM, will speak about the third installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy June 1st at 10am.
