LEAF (the London Effects and Animation Festival) has joined forces with the London 3D Festival to bring one of the biggest VFX events in Europe. ILM will have a substantial presence, with speakers presenting work from Star Wars Episode 2 and MIB2. Iain McCaig, artist extraordinaire of the Star Wars prequels, and VFX Supervisor Ben Snow will give two of the keynote speeches. Geoff Campbell, Senior Digital Modeler, and James Tooley, Technical Animation Supervisor are already confirmed.
Presenters from top VFX and Animation studios include those from Digital Domain, Pixar, Framestore/CFC, Imageworks, The Moving Picture Company, Tippett Studio, Weta Digital, Mill Film, Aardman Animation Studios, The Jim Henson Creature Shop, Double Negative, Passion Pictures, Dreamworks/PDI, Cinesite, Glassworks, and Disney.
Some of the projects presented include Star Wars Episode 2, MIB2, Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Lord of the Rings, Blade 2, the Carl and Ray Blockbuster Commercials, Dinotopia, Black Hawk Down, Monsters Inc. and Treasure Planet, plus topics like commercial work, RenderMan, VFX R&D, Houdini, pre-viz, among others.
Iain McCaig's keynote will take place 12:45 - 1:20 pm on Wednesday October 9. Ben Snow's keynote will take place at the same time on Friday October 11. ILM's Episode 2 presentation will take place from 9:00 am to 12:30 PM on Friday October 11.
This new festival is the result of the union of Digital Media World with Digital Arts Festival, now called Digital Arts World. The festival will take place October 9 to 11 at the Grand Hall, Olympia Exhibition Centre in London. More information at the Digital Media World website:
