ILM at SIGGRAPH 2001: Preview 1

by malducin

As is becoming customary each year, ILM will have a presence at this years' SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, and members and their work will be present in several venues.

As was known a few months ago, ILM will have a booth on the Exhibition floor, booth 2210 in the K Hall (as a side note both Disney and Rhythm and Hues are also nearby). ILM will be receiving resumes and demo reels, beside having people there to answer questions. Seems like ILM will have a major recruiting effort going on. You can locate the booth via the Flash based map on the site:

Also ILM members will be present in the technical program. Seth Rosenthal will be on hand for the "Non-Linear Animation for Production" Panel (on Thursday August 16, 8:30 to 10:15 AM). Should be interesting indeed. Here is the info:

Also, apparently, a member of the team that worked on AI will be present for Course 36: "From Ivory Tower to Silver Screen: Visual Effects Companies Reveal How Research and Development Finds its Way Into Production", a full day course on Monday August 13 (from 8:30 AM to 5PM). Here is the link to the info:

Seems that among the other films to be discussed will be Shrek, Monsters Inc., Stuart Little 2, and The Grinch.

ILM has also submitted several pieces for consideration for the Electronic Theatre and Animation Showcase. While the judging of pieces was done only last week, no confirmations will be known to the public until May 14. Still it's very likely several pieces from ILM will get accepted with strong candidates from Pearl Harbor, The Mummy and AI.

SIGGRAPHs in LA are always the biggest ones so expect a lot of info and involvement from ILM. In a month or so we should have more details about any other venues where ILM might be present, and greater details about the ones listed here. So stay tuned.
