During SIGGRAPH 2003 I had a chance to check out what ILM was up to and was fortunate enough to learn about two other projects ILM is working on. They are working on Robert Rodriguez' Once Upon a Time in Mexico, the follow up to El Mariachi and Desperado, and on The Blackout Murders, directed by Philip Kaufman and starring Ashley Judd.
There is still no word on who the supervisors are for each project, and both will probably have only a handful of shots provided by ILM. Once Upon a Time in Mexico opens September 12, 2003. The film boasts an impressive cast which includes Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek returning, and Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, Ruben Blades, Cheech Marin, Mickey Rourke, Danny Trejo, Eva Mendes and Enrique Iglesias. Once again the rogue Mariachi, now with Carolina at her side, are recruited by a CIA agent to take down a cartel leader. You can see the trailer here:
The Blackout Murders opens April 2nd, 2004. Ashley Judd stars as a female cop whose father was a serial murder and is now the subject of an investigation as her former lovers are also being murdered. Samuel L Jackson and Andy Garcia also star.
You heard it first here folks. Many thanks to Suzy Starke of ILM PR for these scoops.
On an unrelated note Apple now has a better quality trailer of Timeline (scheduled to open November 26, 2003):
Thanks to the anonymous poster for the tip.
