MIA No More: Joe Letteri on Two Towers; Ellen Poon and Dave Carson Are ILM Alumni

by malducin

Today I got official confirmation that VFX Supervisors Joe Letteri, Dave Carson and Ellen Poon are no longer at ILM. Joe Letteri is currently working as VFX Supervisor for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Joe Letteri worked on projects like Star Trek VI, Casper and Jurassic Park and eventually went on to supervise on such projects like Mission Impossible, Daylight, Jack Frost, Magnolia and the Star Wars: A New Hope Special Edition. He is currently supervising VFX work at WETA Digital for the second installment of The Lord of the Rings.

Ellen Poon started at ILM shortly after the digital revolution brought by The Abyss, and worked on such projects like The Mask, Jurassic Park, Disclosure, and Jumanji before going on to supervise such projects like Small Soldiers, Mars Attacks, Men in Black, Star Wars Episode 1 and The Green Mile.

Dave Carson was a long time ILM veteran who started working as a storyboard artists and model maker in the original Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and worked on many of ILM's projects like Dragonslayer, Enemy Mine, The Witches of Eastwick, and Young Sherlock Holmes, Hook, Forrest Gump and Jurassic Park. As the CG revolution started, Dave went on to supervise several projects including The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Special Editions, and Titanic.

No word on where or what Ellen Poon and Dave Carson are doing, but wherever they are we wish them good luck in their new endeavors, and also good luck to Joe Letteri on his new job, which will probably be one of the biggest and most important VFX projects of the year.
